A student from La Follette high school dies in a car accident | local education

A student from La Follette high school died in a car accident, the school principal wrote in an email to parents on Monday evening.

Acting school principal Mathew Thompson described freshman Jeremiah Broomfield as an outgoing student with a “dynamic personality” who will be dearly missed.

“Jeremiah had an amazing presence, he connected to a lot of our students,” he wrote. “The loss of a student, a peer and a friend is shocking and shocking.”

Thompson said the school received news of the event Sunday morning. His email did not specify when the crash happened.

Madison Police Sgt. Nick Ellis confirmed Broomfield’s death but declined to say when or where the accident happened because the case involves a minor.

La Follette’s student services team is developing plans to help students who may be grieving, including giving them access to specific school spaces and offering support in each of Broomfield’s classrooms, Thompson said. He encouraged parents to check in with their children and contact their vice principal if they need additional support.

“We are better together,” Thompson wrote. “We will help each other through this difficult time together. We are taking care of this community.”
