In the heart of Pennsylvania, you’ll find a state park that has just about everything you need to enjoy the outdoors.
Canoe Creek State Park, located near Hollidaysburg in Blair County, is a great place to play disc golf, hike, spend time on the lake fishing, or spend the night in a cabin. rustic.
During my visit there, I met Jim Loose who lives a short distance from the establishment. He said he’s at the park most days for walks or fly fishing for trout. “I go out every day to walk two or three miles. It allows me to relax,” he said of going out in summer and winter. It’s a popular spot for dog walkers as well as those who prefer to exercise on the lake with a kayak.

“The facilities are fantastic. The administration and workers are very cordial and they do a great job of keeping the facility on top. He said, noting that he likes the park because it’s close to his home and the fishing opportunities are good. “I don’t catch a lot of fish, but I like it.”
The park is located on 961 acres and the focal point is the 155-acre lake which flows around wetlands, abandoned fields and mature forests. The lake is popular for fishing all year round and boats powered by electric motors are permitted. The day-use area on the east side has moorings for various types of watercraft.
Between the lake and the streams, you can fish for walleye, trout, muskellunge, bass, chain pickerel, perch, catfish, crappie and crappie.
The park has a total of 12 miles of hiking trails spread across nine trails. Several are less than a mile long, but the Moore’s Hill loop is 3.2 miles and is labeled the hardest. The trail has steep switchbacks and follows the circumference of Moore’s Hill. You can enjoy a variety of wildlife habitats along the trails, including fields, wetlands, and wooded areas.
