Canoe Creek State Park offers boating, fishing, hiking and camping in Pennsylvania

In the heart of Pennsylvania, you’ll find a state park that has just about everything you need to enjoy the outdoors.

Canoe Creek State Park, located near Hollidaysburg in Blair County, is a great place to play disc golf, hike, spend time on the lake fishing, or spend the night in a cabin. rustic.

During my visit there, I met Jim Loose who lives a short distance from the establishment. He said he’s at the park most days for walks or fly fishing for trout. “I go out every day to walk two or three miles. It allows me to relax,” he said of going out in summer and winter. It’s a popular spot for dog walkers as well as those who prefer to exercise on the lake with a kayak.

The park is located on 961 acres and the focal point is the 155-acre lake which flows around wetlands, abandoned fields and mature forests. The lake is popular for fishing all year round and boats powered by electric motors are permitted. The day-use area on the east side has moorings for various types of watercraft.

While visiting Canoe Creek State Park in Blair County, be on the lookout for a variety of birds, including bald eagles.

Between the lake and the streams, you can fish for walleye, trout, muskellunge, bass, chain pickerel, perch, catfish, crappie and crappie.

The park has a total of 12 miles of hiking trails spread across nine trails. Several are less than a mile long, but the Moore’s Hill loop is 3.2 miles and is labeled the hardest. The trail has steep switchbacks and follows the circumference of Moore’s Hill. You can enjoy a variety of wildlife habitats along the trails, including fields, wetlands, and wooded areas.

Canoe Creek is a good place to view wildlife and migratory birds. There are fields, wetlands and a deep limestone mine on the land. With the variety of habitat, the park has been designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society.

If you want to spend more than a day at the park, there are eight six-person cabin rentals that have electric heat, modern conveniences, bathroom, and kitchen. They are located on a hill which offers a view of the lake.
