District Development Fund boats that help connect Kariba town, fishing camps and Nyaminyami are expected to be installed with new engines and undergo a refurbishment.
The boats, including the Chaminuka ferry, which can carry vehicles, luggage and people, are expected to have two engines installed at a cost of $ 40,000 while the bridge is ready to be redone.

Speaking during a tour of the boats, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet ((Administration and Finance) Dr Martin Rushwaya said the move was aimed at improving accessibility in Kariba district.
“We are here to assess the condition of the boats while starting the refurbishment of our ferry called Chaminuka which has served us well for a long time,” said Dr Rushwaya.
âAn entrepreneur started to work on refurbishing the boats, starting with Chaminuka. We want three boats to be operational, so that people can travel comfortably.
