Fly fishing rod

Fishing spot, bait, rod and respawn time explained

Genshin Impact 2.1 added a fishing mechanic to Teyvat, and players welcomed the mini-game with open arms. They can find varieties of fish in all game regions.

Fishing is not only a great way to pass the time after users finish their resin, but they can also exchange the fish for exquisite rewards such as “The Catch”. One species of fish required to obtain The Catch is Rusty Koi, a large gray fish who is said to be a descendant of dragons.

Genshin Impact fans can only catch Rusty Koi in specific places with a unique bait. Additionally, they can only capture a certain number of Rusty Koi at a time, as players have to wait for the respawn time.

Genshin Impact has three regions in Teyvat, and players can find Rusty Koi in each of them. In total, there are five fishing spots for this fish. Plus, they can use the interactive map to pinpoint exact locations.

  1. South of Whispering Woods, Mondstadt
  2. West of Wangshu Inn, Liyue
  3. Southeast of Wangshu Inn, Liyue
  4. Southeast of Luhua Pool, Liyue
  5. East of Koseki village, Inazuma

Once users reach the location, they should pay attention to ripples on the water body to identify fishing spots.

Players can only catch each fish with a specific bait. For Rusty Koi, the required bait is a Fake Fly Bait. To make this bait, they must purchase the Mondstadt Fishing Association formula for 3 Medaka fish.

Once players purchase the formula, they can craft the bait at any Crafting Bench in Genshin Impact. A Fake Fly Bait requires a Horsetail and a Sakura Bloom, a specialty of Liyue and Inazuma, respectively.

After completing the World Quest Exploding Population, each Genshin Impact player will receive a fishing rod, “Wilderness”. This rod counts as the basic fishing rod.

Besides Wilderness, rods such as Windtangler, Wishmaker, and Narukawa Ukai can be traded in the Fishing Association.

All three rods have the effect of reducing the fish’s wrestling time by a constant amount so users can keep their tension in the ideal tension zone when fishing, thus increasing their chances of success. The difference is that each cane is only effective in a specific country.

If players are planning to catch Rusty Koi in Mondstadt, Windtangler is the best option. For Rusty Koi in Liyue, they should use a Wishmaker fishing rod. And finally, Narukawa Ukai can be used for fishing in Inazuma.

Rusty Koi respawn time

Once players catch all of the Rusty Koi in a fishing location, they must wait three days in real time for the fish to spawn. This duration also applies to other Genshin Impact fish.

The respawn time is currently assumed and approximated by the community. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed by Genshin Impact.

In the meantime, if there are no Rusty Koi left in the world, users can ask available friends to catch the fish in their kingdom. They need 20 Rusty Koi to trade The Catch from the Inazuma Fishing Association to Genshin Impact.

For the remaining fish, players can use it as a cooking material.
