Friends and family of Bill Guegel donated $735 to Let’s Go Fishing Headwaters Chapter.
While presenting the check, his daughter, Lori Griess, said he moved to the Park Rapids area as a young boy when his parents became managers of Hoosier Beach Resort on Lower Bottle and Stocking lakes.
At age 13, Bill began guiding, expanding his services to many area resorts and local summer residents.
After high school, Bill worked part-time for the Fisheries Division of MNR. He eventually became manager of Park Rapids and continued in that role until his retirement in 1987.
“He has worked closely with area conservation clubs and offices in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan to ensure quality fishing on area lakes,” she said. “He enjoyed sharing his love of fishing with his family and lifelong friends. The best part was the lunch ashore or the fish fries which benefited from his expertise. He loved watching his children and grandchildren reel in their first crappie, walleye and northern to master the art of fly fishing.
Lori said when her father recently passed away, the family discussed memorials that would reflect what was important to Bill.
“We thought that by donating to your program, you would help carry on his legacy by ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the love of fishing on the waters of local lakes,” he said. she declared.
